About Susan
Susan Strawbridge is a watercolor artist based on Florida’s West Coast. She has been painting a series focusing on natural subjects with an emphasis on color and how light falling across these subjects reveals them in a new and interesting way. Favorite themes include close-ups of native plants, birds, animals, and landscapes found along the nearby Withlacoochee River.
Susan has been painting and drawing as long as she can remember. Through the years she has explored various media including graphite, pastels, and acrylics before settling on her now favorite medium of watercolor.
She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Susan has also learned much from attending workshops, in particular those taken with artist Pat Weaver.
Her work has been exhibited in Florida, New York and in the Midwest. Her paintings have been included in the annual Florida Watercolor Society’s annual exhibitions and in their on-line non-signature member exhibition. She shows her work annually with the Citrus Watercolor Club’s exhibit and has received several awards. Her work can be seen at the Florida Artists Gallery in Floral City, Florida.
Susan and her husband John W. Strawbridge, also an artist illustrator and designer, reside in Inverness, Florida. Susan works at Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park where she finds daily inspiration from Florida’s wildlife and the beauty of these beautiful natural surroundings.
